5 Ideas To Help You Expand Your Reading Collection

As you will know if you read my blog on a regular basis, I am a total bookworm, and proud. I love reading anything and everything – you’ll rarely find me without a book in my hands.

However, one problem that comes hand in hand with being a book lover is finding new writers to follow. Yes, new books are released each day, but sometimes it’s nice to opt for a story that’s a little bit different.

I don’t always want to read yet another book by the same author. Sometimes I want something written by someone I have never heard of.

TOP 5 IDEAS TO HELP YOU EXPAND YOUR READING COLLECTION

Luckily for me, and all of you other bookworms out there, the internet has made finding new books, much easier. However, it isn’t the only option when it comes to discovering awesome new authors.

Want to expand your reading collection by getting your hands on books from writers you have never heard of? Yes – then follow these five simple ideas, and see what books you can discover.

Ask for recommendations from friends and family

Simple but effective. If you want to discover a new author, ask your friends and relatives for suggestions. I often find that asking older people for book suggestions has fantastic results.

There are plenty of older authors who write fantastic books, but as a younger person, I haven’t heard of them. Ask your grandparents for author suggestions, and you will be amazed at the writers you’ll discover.

Look for books from other countries

Want to read a novel from another culture? Yes – then use the internet to find books from other countries. Post in online forums, search Amazon, and visit lifestyle websites from other countries. You’ll be amazed at all the new authors you will come across.

Reading books from other locations is a great way to discover writers that you have never heard of before. Just make sure to order the book in English, as you won’t be able to read it otherwise.

Join Goodreads

Goodreads is a community website that allows reading lovers from across the globe to communicate with one another.

The best thing about this site is that as well as being a place to chat with other book lovers, there are also lots of book reviews posted. So if you are looking for a new book to read, this is the perfect website to browse.

Google best book lists

All over the internet, there are blog posts and articles containing lists of all the best books ever written. Google them and have a read of the books on the list, if there are any that you haven’t read, make a point of ordering them.

Ask the bookshop assistant for recommendations

Head to your favourite bookstore and ask the shop assistant for recommendations of authors. Explain that you want to find a few new books to read, that are unlike what you would normally choose.

All good clerks should be up for the challenge, so don’t be afraid to ask. You never know, simply by asking for recommendations, you might find an awesome new author that you love. It’s worth making the effort, I promise.

If you want to expand your reading collection, try the five ideas above!

Recommendations from people you know are often the best as these people actually know you and what you like quite well. Friends and family should definitely be first port of call 🙂

I like reading but i can never stay focused long enough. Now if the book was in movie form then I could absolutely high five you there – My mum always says the book is always a lot better then the movies 😀

Ahh that’s a shame 🙁 Films never have quite the same level of detail in them as books but as long as they’ve captured the essence of the story, they’re awesome 😀 Thanks for stopping by!
