Book Review: Capture Your Style by Aimee Song

Capture Your Style Summary

From Instagram star Aimee Song, creator of the popular fashion blog Song of Style, comes the very first how-to Instagram guide, breaking down the essentials to taking gorgeous photos and building your brand and following.

With over three million Instagram fans, Aimee Song knows a thing or two about taking the perfect Instagram photo. And Instagram is so much more than a platform for pretty pictures.

It’s the fastest-growing social media network with an engaged community, a major marketing tool for brands, a place where Beyoncé drops her albums, and a hub where products can be bought with a simple double tap.

Including everything from fashion, travel, food, décor, and more, Aimee includes insider tips on curating a gorgeous feed and growing an audience.

In this ultimate how-to Instagram guide, you’ll learn:

· How to brighten, sharpen, and filter your photos
· The best apps and filters
· How to prop and style food and fashion photos
· Ways to craft your voice and story on Instagram
· How to gain more Instagram followers
· Secrets behind building a top Instagram brand
· How to transform an Instagram hobby into a successful business
· Tips for driving revenue based on your following

Capture Your Style will empower you to become your own master mobile photographer, whether you’re looking to launch an e-commerce business or simply sharing a gorgeous meal with your friends, turning even the most mundane moment into Instagold.

This is a must-have reference for anyone interested in the ins and outs of stylish personal branding.

Capture Your Style Review

If you’re thinking about picking this book up because you think you’re going to be the next Instagram star, think again.

Capture Your Style is not a quickie guide to getting a million followers on Instagram (or 4.7 million in Aimee Song’s case).

If, however, you’re looking to improve the quality of your pictures, your overall instagram feed and start posting more regularly to create a consistent feed, then you need to pick up this book.

I have to admit that a huge part of the reason why I loved Capture Your Style is that I love the fashion blogger Aimee Song and I love her photos.

I’ve been following her on social media ever since I got on Instagram and she’s always been a huge source of Instagram inspiration for me.

As an Instagram guide, I felt that Capture Your Style is very much aimed at beginners. I’m not an expert on Instagram or anything but I found that most of the tips provided were things that I already knew and am already implementing on my account.

Whilst I didn’t learn many new things from Capture Your Style, it reassured me that I’m on the right track for having a creative feed that is true to me and my “brand”.

If you carefully follow all of the tips that Aimee has given in Capture Your Style, you should come away with a beautifully curated and creative Instagram feed.

However, in my opinion, her tips for gaining followers, are of little use today in this algorithmic insta-world.

Instagram’s algorithm change, which first occurred back in 2016, enraged Instagrammers all around the world and the problem only seems to be getting worse.

I think pretty much every account, whether big or small, has seen huge dips in engagement as a result of the algorithm change.

As such, a lot of the tips out there for gaining followers and an increase in likes can be of limited use when you’re literally battling against a machine.

In Capture Your Style, Aimee highlights all the best ways to help increase your following and improve your engagement.

But if, despite following all her advice, you find that you aren’t seeing the results, Instagram’s algorithm may be the one to blame.

Stick with these methods though – they’re still your best chance of growing your account.

All in all, Capture Your Style is perfect for someone looking to begin a curated Instagram account.

If you already have one, however, this book is still well worth a read to find out more about Aimee’s path to success with her blog Song of Style.

I love that I now have some of her best photos to hand for inspiration, as they are absolutely b-e-a-utiful and mostly shot on an iPhone!

That’s probably the most important lesson to take away from this book – you don’t need fancy camera equipment to take creative, high-quality images that people want to double-tap.
