A Court of Thorns and Roses (or ACOTAR) is the explosive second series from the queen of young adult fantasy books, Sarah J Maas.
Whilst her best-selling Throne of Glass series proved to be hugely popular, many readers think that A Court of Thorns and Roses is even better.

A Court of Thorns and Roses is a Beauty and the Beast retelling with fae, wolves, magic, war and more. Alongside this it’s a fairly steamy romance novel that’s much more “adult” than Throne of Glass.
If you’re now reminiscing about how great A Court of Thorns and Roses was and want to relive it through the very best ACOTAR quotes, then you’ve come to the right place.
I’ve compiled the best A Court of Thorns and Roses book quotes (including the clever A Court of Thorns and Roses riddle). There are quotes about love, strength, hope and more.

A Court of Thorns and Roses Love Quotes
Now really I don’t think the true passages relating to love or passion begin until A Court of Mist and Fury, and if you’ve read book two of the ACOTAR series then you’ll know why.
However, there are still plenty of quotes in A Court of Thorns and Roses about love and fire.
“I was as unburdened as a piece of dandelion fluff, and he was the wind that stirred me about the world.”
– Feyre, Chapter 25, p228
“I love you,” he whispered, and kissed my brow.
“Thorns and all.”
– Tamlin, Chapter 27, p248
“I threw myself into that fire, threw myself into it, into him, and let myself burn.”
– Feyre, Chapter 46, p312
“His throat bobbled. His kiss that time was deep and thorough, unhurried and intent.
I let the dawn creep inside me, let it grow with each movement of his lips and brush of his tongue against mine. Tears pricked beneath my closed eyes. It was the happiest moment of my life.”
– Feyre, Chapter 25, p230
ACOTAR Quotes about Hopes and Dreams
Prythian, the land of the fae, faces an impending darkness that threatens to overpower them all and reverse years of peace between fae and humans.
It would be very easy to succumb to it and simply let the dark forces overpower them, but there’s hope yet for both humans and fae.
Here are the best ACOTAR quotes about hope:
“We need hope, or else we cannot endure.”
– Mr Archeron, Chapter 2, p19
“There is a better world, Nesta. There is a better world out there, waiting for you to find it.”
– Feyre, Chapter 31, p272
“Then, like a shimmering disk too rich and clear to be described, the sun slipped over the horizon and lined everything with gold. It was like seeing the world being born, and we were the sole witnesses.”
– Feyre, Chapter 25, p230
ACOTAR Quotes about Human Feeling
The high fae men who fall in love with Feyre all seem to do so because she is so very human. She feels and experiences life differently to the fae in a raw and honest way that they find “entrancing”.
Whilst our feet are very much planted in the human world, these quotes are a reminder that our capacity to feel as deeply as we do is one of the best parts of being human.
“Be glad of your human heart, Feyre. Pity those who don’t feel anything at all.”
– Rhysand, Chapter 46, p414
“Because your human joy fascinates me – the way you experience things, in your lifespan, so wildly and deeply and all at once is…entrancing.”
– Tamlin, Chapter 19, p172
“If it grieves you,” he said, the words caressing my bones, “then I don’t think it’s absurd at all.”
– Tamlin, Chapter 19, p172
This is one of my favourite ACOTAR quotes so it’s a shame it came from the mouth of Tamlin. It’s basically the ACOTAR way of saying “your feelings are valid” and I really love that.
“Don’t feel bad for one moment about doing what brings you joy.”
– Tamlin, Chapter 19, p172
ACOTAR Quotes about Strength
Feyre has always been strong. She had to be, for her family.
But when she’s thrust into the world of the high fae, she’s suddenly weak again as a “mere” human in the face of their magical powers.
But as the novel goes on, her character becomes strong again and continues to do so for the rest of the series.
Then there’s also Rhysand, who it turns out is fighting his own demons, rather than be the demon himself as he is often portrayed to be.
ACOTAR is just the beginning for these characters who grow immensely in A Court of Mist and Fury but here are some ACOTAR quotes about strength to start with:
“Because when the legends get written, I didn’t want to be remembered for standing on the sidelines.”
– Rhysand, Chapter 46, p413
“I had become the music and the fire and the night, and there was nothing that could slow me down.”
– Feyre, Chapter 25, p226
A Court of Thorns and Roses Riddle
Towards the end of A Court of Thorns and Roses, our characters find themselves at the mercy of Amarantha.
She challenges Feyre to complete three tasks, after which she will free all the fae courts.
Alternatively, Feyre can solve a riddle. It’s a clever riddle and not one I could’ve guessed, but Feyre manages to find the answer right when she is at her breaking point.
Here’s the A Court of Thorns are Roses riddle:
“There are those who seek me a lifetime but never we meet,
And those I kiss but who trample me beneath ungrateful feet.
At times I seem to favor the clever and the fair,
But I bless all those who are brave enough to dare.
By large, my ministrations are soft-handed and sweet,
But scorned, I become a difficult beast to defeat.
For though each of my strikes lands a powerful blow,
When I kill, I do it slow… ”
– Amarantha, Chapter 35, p313
And what is the Court of Thorns and Roses riddle answer?
Why, love, of course!

If it grieves you that Tamlin stated it, then it is not absurd at all. :)

Okay, I gotta be honest here and say that it took me a while to get into this book. Maybe it's because I'm not into fantasy or maybe because the first few chapters are boring at hahahah Anyway, I loved it? Sadly though, I stopped there. I have the second book but never really picked it up to read it (which is weird because I KNOW steamy things happen and honestly? I'm here for it!) Why do they have to be so slow? Now, I know (because people like to spoiler things) that Tamlin is the bad guy but I really REALLY loved him in ACOTAR. Keep in mind that I shouldn't know he's actually bad so yes, I drooled over him like I'd do on a mashed potato plate. But yeah, should I continue with the series? Also, I really wanted to point out, to be a fantasy book it's not that fantasy at all which is also why I liked it so much. It was easy to replace Feyre with myself (in my head, obviously!) and I like it when fantasy books do that. Okay, that was a long ass comment hahaha but I loved this post so much!! You should do it with other books too!!! Because I do love me a good quote!

Noo you have to continue! At least to ACOMAF because, as you say, that is when things get a) steamy and b) just damn amaazing!! ACOTAR is good but ACOMAF is a 5-star read for me (and I'm stingy with my stars). Tamlin becomes less romantic and just messed up and possessive and then Rhysand saves the day. I know it's a hard transformation to imagine during ACOTAR but the change is done so well. Feyre also becomes a kick-ass heroine instead of the human girl who is weaker than all the rest. I definitely plan on doing more quote posts because I love re-discovering great lines from my favourite books! Thanks for commenting, Marilù!
