The Vurger Co Review: Vegan Burger Bar in Shoreditch

When I got the email inviting me to come try out Shoreditch’s new vegan burger bar, The Vurger Co, I couldn’t have been more excited. I’d first seen these “vurgers” mentioned by @happyskinkitchen, a vegan blogger, and I’d be keen to try them ever since.

Their new place is just a few minutes walk from Shoreditch High Street station so if you’re exploring East London, you need to add this trendy (and tasty!) place to your list. Here’s why:

I arrived at The Vurger Co for a late lunch one Sunday and was greeted by a huge neon sign saying “Feed Your Soul”. I knew we’d come to the right place. The interiors are very simple and minimalist, which matches their “no waste” ethos. They are only four burger options on the menu but I had a tough time choosing – an aubergine, corn fritter, mushroom or black bean based burger?

In the end I went for the Auburger as recommended by the staff and my friend opted for the The Classic (black bean). I’m not a vegan myself but I love veggie burgers and was curious to see how these vegan burgers fared…

When the burgers arrived, I was surprised to see just how large they were. Just LOOK at that whopper of a burger! Each contained a large vegetable patty, topped with vegan cheese, vegan mayo, tomatoes, gherkins – the lot. I cut my Auburger in half and dug in.

Things got a little messy after that with my burger slipping and sliding around until I conceded and picked up a knife and fork. However, it was delicious! It was bursting with flavours and different textures and just wow. Much yum. The burger is served in a squishy vegan brioche bun and you can opt for a gluten-free option if you wish.

On the side of the amazing burgers, we ordered skin-on fries (of course, there are also sweet potato fries available!) and the famous vegan mac & cheese. It’s clear that the “mac & cheese” isn’t actually made from cheese but it did have a lovely creamy consistency and a very slightly nutty flavour.

They also provide a really hearty portion of this so I would recommend getting the mac & cheese or the fries (unlike this fatty). There was nothing special about the fries but hey, chips are chips, you can’t complain.

To finish up we ordered two vegan Oreo milkshakes which were incredible. I’ve had a lot of oreo milkshakes in my time (a lot!), but these bad boys were up there with some of the best. What’s more, I was completely and utterly flabbergasted that they were completely plant-based! No traditional milk or vanilla ice cream but every bit as tasty!

I’ll definitely be hitting up The Vurger Co again when I’m in East London as I love that it offers a menu full of people’s favourites but with a plant-based twist. Most vegan restaurants I have visited previously have focussed on avocados and quinoa, but sometimes you just want a big ol’ burger!

I would genuinely choose an Auburger over something from, say, GBK or Byron Burger, because it’s super filling, super tasty and completely plant-based! As I said, I’m not a vegan myself but I have trying to cut down my meat and dairy consumption and it’s places like this that make delicious plant-based food that really spur me on.

The bottom line: vegan or not, you’ll love The Vurger Co!

Thank you to The Vurger Co for having me!

Although I’m not Vegan I often opt for the meat free option. This burger sounds and looks delicious. Such a shame I live far away or I would have been in ASAP
