For the past week or so I’ve been trying out So Shape Paris‘ 5 day reboot to get me back into the fitness game. I fell into a bit of a slump after my travels this summer so I was keen to get off the snacks and back into the gym. So Shape claim that you’ll be feeling more energetic after just 5 days and that this reboot is perfect to stimulate your metabolism after a bout of overeating (which is the only way I describe my eating habits for the past 3 months). Find out how to get your energy back with the So Shape UK Challenge below:
How does So Shape work?
As part of the 5 day reboot you get 10 Smart Meals from So Shape. I went for 5 sweet shakes for breakfast and 5 savoury ‘hot meals’ for dinner. There’s a huge range of flavours available from So Shape UK but in the end I opted for the following: Cheese Pasta, Pesto Pasta, Mushroom Risotto, Indian Curry Pasta, Pasta Spicy Bolo, Brownie, Cookies & Cream, Vanilla & White Choc, Chocolate and Stracciatella. You also get a So Shape shaker to make your smart meals in and there are a number of different shakers to choose from, all of which are very stylish. In the end I opted for this sort of retro-looking one.
I have never tried a diet like this before because I’ve always been against replacing lunch and dinner with liquids. I’ve never understood how someone could just have a drink for dinner. However, with So Shape you have a sweet shake for breakfast, when I would often have a protein shake anyway, whatever you want for lunch and then a savoury Smart Meal for dinner. The sweet shakes are made up just by mixing powder with water and the Smart Meals are made by adding water and then microwaving.
In between the Smart Meals it is recommended that you only eat foods that So Shape have included on their list of “open foods”. This includes things such as chicken breast, shrimps, tuna, tofu, most green vegetables and different seasonings such as lemon, vinegar and spices. These foods are all really low in fat and most are high in protein and other vitamins that are great for boosting energy. You’re supposed to make your lunch from these items but you can also snack on them if you get peckish throughout the day.
How does So Shape taste?
I love, and I mean really love, the breakfast shakes. If you’re into fitness, you’ve probably tried many different protein powders and also discovered that the majority taste DISGUSTING. So I’m always wary of any sort of powdered shake, particularly when it’s made with water, like this one. However, I was actually really surprised by So Shape’s breakfast shakes, which were somehow incredibly creamy and milkshake-like despite the fact that they were made with powder and water.
All the sweet flavours are great but my favourite has to be the brownie one because it even had tiny crunchy pieces of chocolate in it! They really have made an effort here to make the shakes as tasty as possible. There’s little excuse for you to go reaching for that chocolate bar when you can have a So Shape brownie shake and not feel guilty at all.
I wasn’t such a big fan of the So Shape hot food meals which I had in the evenings but I think the key here is to get the consistency of the mix perfect. As I said, you have to add the powders to water and put the mix in the microwave and I think I either over-cooked it or didn’t add enough water because the first time I tried this my cheesy So Shape pasta was a little thick. I can’t, however, fault the taste of these savoury packs. Although I messed up the consistency, the taste was exactly what it says on the pack and I really enjoyed the So Shape pesto pasta I had later in the week. If I were to do this reboot again though I would probably go for the sweet options as breakfast and the savoury soups for dinner.
The So Shape challenge results?
I guess what everyone wants to know is: Does So Shape work? All in all, I was extremely pleased with the quality of So Shape’s products: both the shaker and the powders themselves. The sweet ones were super yummy and if you hadn’t told me they were high protein breakfast shakes I would’ve taken them for milkshakes! When I was first introduced to this brand I wondered if it was all about the aesthetic and this if it would turn out to be another fad diet. However I found that all of So Shape’s Smart Meals were surprisingly filling.
I think this is because it’s not really something you quickly glug down before you rush out the house. I don’t think I could drink the whole thing in one even if I tried, it’s just too heavy to bolt down (it really is like a thick, creamy milkshake!). As a result, you end up taking a couple of sips here and there as you go through your morning and before you know it it’s lunch time already and you’re onto your open foods.
What’s good about So Shape is that it’s not just about losing weight. It’s about getting your energy back, getting you back on track and feeling healthy again! There are 3 different types to choose from – 5 day Reboot, 14 day Remove and 28 day Reborn. Personally, for this sort of diet, I think more than 5 days is a bit much so I would highly recommend starting with the lowest and seeing how you get on. It works out at £3.50 per meal which isn’t bad at all.
