Star Wars Film & Fizz Night at One Aldwych Hotel London

Star Wars Film & Fizz Night at One Aldwych Hotel London

A couple of weekends ago I had the pleasure of attending a Film & Fizz night at One Aldwych in London. Each weekend, this hotel hosts a private film screening of a new release or an old classic, which is followed up with a three course meal in their Indigo restaurant.

I browsed the programme for this season’s Film & Fizz and after much umming and ahhing I settled for Star Wars: The Last Jedi. I had heard people raving about the latest Star Wars instalment at the end of 2017 but I’m so wary of hyped films so I thought I’d wait a little while.

In any case, I was super impressed to see that films that are still in cinemas have made it onto One Aldwych’s playlist! It turns out, the hotel has partnered with Curzon Cinemas to make this happen! Keep reading to find out more about this wonderful evening…

Upon arrival, I was led down to the private screening room where I was greeted with complimentary champagne and a box of popcorn. Since I was the first to arrive (#keen), I had my pick of seats so of course I picked the one smack bang in the middle of the front row.

There are only about 30 seats in the screening room so no matter where you’re sitting you’re going to have a very good view at this intimate screening.

Once everyone was seated, the film began. Don’t worry, there’s a little pullout stand for your champagne so you can keep sipping throughout the film without worrying about spilling champers everywhere.

Now, I’ve always been a fan of Star Wars but I’m not one of those super fans. Maybe it was the free champagne, the cosy atmosphere, or the sheer brilliance of this film but I would now consider myself a super fan in the making.

I ship Kylo Ren and Rey so hard I could’ve burst! I’ve even got a little plush Chewie and Darth Vadar now and you can check them out in this post.

After the film, we were led back upstairs to the Indigo restaurant, one of One Aldwych’s two restaurants. We were given a table on the mezzanine floor looking over the hotel’s bar, which was spectacularly romantic.

As soon as we were seated, we were brought some complimentary bread and olive oil to start our meal. This was welcome as it was already 9pm and I hadn’t had anything but champagne in a couple of hours…

There’s a special set menu for the Film & Fizz nights including a starter, main and dessert. I opted for the pigeon, the venison and the rhubarb crumble, all of which were beautifully presented and delicious. Our food looked more like a work of art than a meal!

As I was invited there on a complimentary basis, we were also offered a bottle of wine on the house, but if you want to add this to your three course meal, prices start at £34 per bottle. We opted for the red Chateau Mazetier which went perfectly with the red meats we chose as part of our meal.

The service at the hotel was impeccable and I have never been waited upon by such attentive people. My water and wine was continuously topped up for me the second either looked a little low and someone was always on hand for any questions/requests.

When it was time for us to leave, the hotel doors were opened for us by the concierge and we waved goodbye with our bellies full and content.

All in all, I had a splendid time at Film & Fizz Night with the Curzon at One Aldwych and I’d highly recommend it as a more intimate and elegant alternative to your average cinema. The weekend package costs £55pp, which seemed steep to me at first.

However, when I’d factored in that you get to see a newly released film in the centre of London with complimentary popcorn and champagne, followed by a three-course meal in a 5-star hotel, I came to the conclusion that it’s really very reasonable.

As many of the films they’re showing are new releases, it’s the perfect way to see a new, highly-acclaimed film in a sumptuous setting!

Price
£55 pp on weekends
£45 pp on Movie Monday

What a beautiful place and a lovely way to spend an evening! I must admit I do prefer the older Star Wars movies!

The food looks lovely and I think £55 is very reasonable if the wine etc is included. If you costed the film and meal up separately it would be closer to £100.

Wow! This sure sounds like a night to remember! The food looks absolutely incredible, I definitely can't argue with you on the beautiful presentation of the food, the venison looks divine! You are right that at first, £55 per head does sound quite pricey, but when you factor in everything you've received here, it sounds like a brilliant deal! So glad that you enjoyed yourself so much!
