4 Easy Outfit Ideas For Every Possible Date

Put your hand up if you’re guilty of going through at least 12 outfit changes before finally deciding on the one you tried on right at the beginning. I see a lot of hands in the air. I’m 100% guilty of this so I’ve put together four very simple outfits that are currently in style and in stores that can easily be thrown on and modified whatever the occasion.

Outdoorsy Date

perfect for: stargazing, a country walk, a trip to the pub etc.

On an outdoorsy date your top priority should obviously be practicalities. Is it cold? Is it going to rain? Or maybe even snow? Poor clothing and shoe choices for an outdoors date will put a damper on the whole occasion. This is a v simple outfit whose focus is the matching knits. I’m still obsessed with all things rose gold and blush so this pom pom hat from Dune and super soft scarf from Topshop quickly made their way into my shopping basket.

Underneath I’m simply wearing a chunky knit (see outfit below) and my classic Topshop Leigh jeans. Ontop of this I’ve put on my long grey jacket from Uniqlo, which is unfortunately last season’s stock and no longer on sale. I’ve found an almost identical alternative from Brave Soul though, which is about half the price and also comes with a detachable fur collar!

As usual, I’m wearing my four favourite rose gold stacking rings from Pandora, which I wear everyday without fail. In retrospect though, you’d be wise to bring a pair of gloves with you on an outdoorsy date! Or you could use the biting cold as an excuse to hold hands… Up to you.

Dune Cable Knit Pom Pom £32 £22
Topshop Supersoft Tassel Scarf £16
Brave Soul Ada Long Coat With Detachable Faux Fur Collar £85 £55
Topshop Leigh Jeans £38
Dune Payeton Chelsea Boots £95 £79
Dune Quilted Crossbody Bag £60
Pandora Stacking Rings

Coffee Date

also perfect for: museum dates, bookshop hopping etc.

This is the coveted New Look jumper that instagrammers all over England have been snapping up. After a couple of high profile fashion bloggers started raving about this jumper, it sold out online and in a lot of stores too. Indeed, the one I am sporting in these pictures was the last one left in the store. I made the store staff take it off the display mannequin for me (which involved completely dismantling it) so I could buy it. Anything for the ‘gram right? I have zero regrets because I’ve basically been living in this oversized bell sleeve jumper since I brought it home with me.

If you were only to buy one pair of shoes this season, I would make it these over the knee boots. They are super sexy and stylish and go with literally every skirt/dress combo. This pair are Dune’s new season “Taiya” boots which have a super snug fit around the leg. There’s not much elasticity and these are already super tight on me so if you’ve got large calves these may not be the best shoes for you.

For accessories I’ve gone for the same as above. A quilted crossbody bag, which from afar could be mistaken for a classic Chanel bag, and my favourite Pandora stacking rings.

p.s. This hot chocolate from Monocle near Baker Street is THEBOMB.COM

New Look Balloon Sleeve Jumper
Topshop Denim Skirt £34
Dune Taiya OTK Boots £155 £93
Dune Quilted Crossbody Bag £60
Pandora Stacking Rings

4 Date Outfit Ideas For Every Possible Date

Active Date

perfect for: bowling, ice-skating, axe-throwing etc.

Due to an unforeseen leg injury I was unable to go out and shoot the last two outfits and planned so made do at home. I’m by no means implying this “active date” should start in the home but you do you girl 😉

For an activity based date, be it bowling, ice skating, axe-throwing, mini golf or something else entirely, I’d opt for distressed boyfriend jeans topped with your favourite slogan tee. Simple, practical, stylish. I’ve picked this “Bonjour” long sleeved top from Topshop but the are tonnes of different options out there right now and the French student in me is loving it! Topshop and New Look are killing it with the slogan tees so check those stores out first.

Finish off your look with these white star detail trainers from Dune, similar to those YSL put on the runway. Really comfy, plus blue star details goes well with the light blue boyfriend jeans.

Topshop “Bonjour” Long Sleeve Top £19
Uniqlo Boyfriend Jeans £24.90
Dune Star Appliqué Trainers £60
Dune Embossed Crossbody Bag £60

Romantic Dinner Date

also perfect for: the theatre, sky high bar etc.

Lastly, if you’re a going for a romantic candlelit dinner, you’ll need to look the part. A bardot cut is both sexy and elegant so it’s the perfect style for this sort of date. I actually purchased this lace bardot top from Coast almost a year ago and it’s still in stores now so clearly it’s been very popular! I’ve paired this with a matching pleated midi skirt leaving a cheeky bit of ankle showing, which also allows your shoes to stand out. These classic nude shoes will go with pretty much any outfit but the colour works very well with the navy of the outfit. Of course, the shoes and bag have to match so I found a nude bag from Dune to finish off the outfit.

The best part about this is that the entire outfit can be taken apart and either dressed up or dressed down. These are the four staples in my wardrobe: navy lace top, midi chiffron skirt, nude heels, nude clutch. The bardot lace top is super versatile and goes with a wide range of different bottoms. This outfit would actually be my fourth occasionwear outfit combination featuring this top! Other variations included: wide leg navy velvet trousers, wide leg cropped trousers and my personal favourite, a large dipped hem princess-like skirt. The latter is the outfit I wore to Christ Church ball after my final exams and you check out the full outfit post here.

Word of warning: these shoes are suuuper high so if you’re prone to wobbling these might not be the shoes for you. For me, they check all the boxes – peep toe, ankle strap, neutral colour. This is a staple shoe that every girl needs in her wardrobe! There’s a mix of different blush-coloured materials here with suede, texture and plastic. This goes well with the nude bag which is both suede and leather. The chain is detachable so you can either carry this on your shoulder or keep it in your hands. Although it looks pretty small, like Mary Poppins handbag, it’s much bigger on the inside. You should be able to fit all the essentials and a little more in it, which is super handy if you’re going to out all night long.

Coast Marr Lace Top £69
Uniqlo Pleated Skirt £24.90
Dune Marcy Rose Gold High Heels £85
Dune Bonie Blush Clutch £60
