We may already be half way through February but there’s definitely still a bite in the air. I’ve always suffered from dry and sensitive skin so the winter months do my skin no favours. This year I decided to give my skin the treatment it deserves and actually switch up my winter beauty routine to reflect the change in weather. Think hydrating serums, deep clean cleansers, scrubs – the lot!
I had never read any Beauty Pie reviews before I started testing them myself. Heck, I hadn’t even heard of the brand until a box of PR samples turned up at my doorstep. But now their products are part of my daily routine. This Beauty Pie cleanser is a little different in that you apply it to a dry face and rub in circles before then wiping it off with a flannel and warm water. The box claims it removes makeup, soothes and purifies but I was really skeptical about this. How could you possibly get make up and dirt off a dry face effectively using what looked like cream?
I tested it out with a full face of make up and, voila, off came my eyebrow liner and matt lipstick! I was really surprised by how easily both of them came off because other cream makeup removers I’ve tried have required quite a lot of rubbing before they’ll budge, but Beauty Pie’s cream cleanser was just as good as a oil-based makeup remover. The only thing it wasn’t so good at is removing my mascara but I think this is partially because it’s quite awkward to rub your eyelashes. For all other makeup though, this was perfect.
A lot of cleansers I’ve used in the past have left my face feeling really fresh, but quite dried out and if I don’t apply moisturiser immediately then visible dry patches will begin to appear. However, as this one is very creamy it left my face feeling so plump and hydrated. I think my skin would probably be just fine with this cleanser alone and no moisturiser at all when I’m in a real rush! However, as I said at the beginning, I’m starting to pay more attention to my skin and its needs so I followed this up with Beauty Pie’s Super Stem Cell Moisturise Shot Serum.
Beauty Pie super stem cell serum is also now a staple in my beauty routine and I don’t go a day without using it. It’s made using special Korean aloe-vera-infused moisture and is a super lightweight serum that delivers a surprising amount of moisture. I use this everyday after washing my face and even when I forget to put my moisturiser on top, my skin remains hydrated for hours. New fave beauty product alert!
NB. Although I use numerous beauty products every day, I’m not a beauty addict or anything. BUT, I am low-key obsessed with all things Beauty Pie now. For reals. Their products also come in 100% recyclable packaging and they are vegan friendly. Find out more about them on their website here.
Beauty Pie Lumiboost aims to even out the skin tone and reduce the appearance of dark spots and any other blemishes. I often have blemishes on my cheeks and uneven skin tone is a huge pain in my ass. I’ve started using Lumiboost in the mornings after I’ve washed my face as it’s a really light serum that leaves that slightly dewy glow. I then put a light, hydrating moisturiser on top and I’m good to go! It really does make my skin look a lot smoother and more even in the same way that a primer might, except this is much, much lighter on the skin.
Micellar Water has become a beauty staple over the years with everyone from beauty professionals to celebrities raving about it. It’s leaves your skin feeling super refreshed and soft whilst also removing all your makeup. Even the tricky stuff! I was quite impressed that this managed to clean off my mascara, which usually only comes off with an oil-based remover. The good thing about Bioderma micellar water in comparison to some toners and cleansers I’ve used in the past is that it doesn’t dry your skin out. Bioderma micellar water is most popular in Paris, the land of all things chic, so I’d get this in your bathroom asap.
Bioderma’s Hydrabio cream has a rich, creamy texture, which is perfect for keeping your skin hydrated during the colder months. This product’s main selling point is its staying power. With most other moisturisers, my skin will start to feel dry again after a few hours outside, but this thick cream keeps my skin feeling hydrated for the whole day. I don’t use this cream everyday as instructed, instead I keep it for those really cold and dry days when I know my skin will need that extra boost.
Lift & Repair at the age of 22? YES! Towards the end of last year I visited Wyboston Lakes and Y Spa (see full review here) and whilst I was there a skincare consultant did an analysis of my face. He told me that my skin was mostly great but as expected there were already some very fine lines forming around my eyes. Ever since that appointment, I have been applying eye cream twice a day to try and stave off my skin’s ageing for a little while longer.
Soaper Duper is a brand I’ve seen around before but I’ve never felt inclined to buy it over other brands with similarly appealing packaging. Now that I’ve tried it, I would say Soaper Duper offer products that are in line with those by Soap & Glory – snazzy packaging and indulgent scented lotions, which are rich and moisturising. This isn’t surprising since the brand was created by someone who formerly worked for Soap & Glory. Where this line of products does stand out from other brands, however, is the brand ethos.
Their mission is to provide amazing products (check), which are made from naturally derived products (check), that respect the environment (check). As if these three things weren’t enough, they also support WaterAid to bring soap and water to those in need. Their products are free from parabens, mineral oils, plastic microbeads, SLS/SLES, cocamide DEA, colourants, MIT, animal derivatives. The packaging is either made from recycled materials or recyclable and the brand is dedicated to reducing plastic.
If you’re looking for a super hydrating and creamy body lotion with a hint of zest, with 0 guilt about your effect on the environment, then Soaper Duper is the brand for you. It’s affordable too with this huge tub only costing £7.50. I’m looking to use more sustainable beauty products this year so I’d highly recommend this.
As above, this hand cream is part of Soaper Duper’s mission to create amazing and environmentally friendly products. This hand cream is very similar to the body above but possibly even thicker in consistency. It’s definitely more “buttery” and thick than most other hand creams out there but it won’t leave your hands with that slick greasy feeling like so many other hand creams. As such, you’ll only need a dab for super soft and hydrated hands.
If you really want to do your hands some good, try out The Hero Project hand cream. It’s designed for hands that go through a lot everyday and they’ve formulated their hand cream to prevent signs of ageing, moisturise the skin, as well as strengthen the nails and cuticles. That’s a lot of things for one little bottle to do! So far I’m very impressed with this little hand cream and whilst it is a little pricey, the price reflects the value it brings.
Chapped lips can be a real bitch during the cold months and dry lips are not sexy. The tiniest amount of this lip sugar will make your lips super smooth and the best part is it’s edible so you can just lick it off! The scrub contains little hearts in it too and tastes just like Love Hearts. Mmm..
If you’re interested in sustainable beauty, this product is 100% vegan friendly.
7th Heaven are always my go-to face masks because they’re cheap, they smell amazing and they’re super effective. Their products are mostly made from natural products and their pamper pack comes with a large variety of different types for you to try. Some are creamy, some are refreshing, some are indulgent – there really is something for every type of skin crisis. I’d highly recommend investing in one of their pamper packs so you’ve always got some masks on hand, whatever the weather. These are a lovely and simple way to treat yourself at the end of a long week and you’ll love the results.
This tin is particularly good because it features a wide variety of face masks as well as some products for your hands and feet. Everybody is prone to dry hands and feet during the winter months so it’s great to give them a bit of a pamper too!
