The Ultimate Gift Guide For Book Lovers

Doing some last minute shopping for the bookworm in your life? I’ve created the ultimate gift guide for book lovers that should give you some inspiration this festive season! You’d better get a move on though… Santa will be coming down our chimneys in just five days. So without further ado, here are some great gifts for book lovers:

Northanger Abbey by Jane Austen

If you’re stumped for which book to choose for your book loving friend then a classic is usually a good shout. Northanger Abbey is not the most talked about of Austen’s novels as it was her last to be published so it makes for a great gift for book lovers this Christmas. This story follows Catherine Morland as she navigates female friendships and a host of suitors. What’s more, this edition from Folio Society contains the most beautiful illustrations, inside and out. There’s a beautiful quote on the protective cover, a lovely illustration on the front cover and plenty of illustrations throughout. This collector’s item will be treasured by its recipient and you can get one edition for them every year!

Available from Folio Society for £36.95

You Do You by Sarah Knight

First came The Life Changing Magic of Not Giving a F**k, then Get Your Sh*t Together, now, we have You Do You. The third book by Sarah Knight has already been met with much praise and is the perfect book for Christmas season. New year, new you? No! In this book, the anti-guru, Sarah Knight, reminds us that there’s nothing wrong with you and you don’t need to change this year. If you know someone who makes a list as long as their arm of new year’s resolutions each year, this is the perfect gift for them.

Harry Potter – A History of Magic: The Book of the Exhibition

The British Library’s “A History of Magic” exhibition sold old incredibly quickly. So not to miss out on the magic, this companion book is a must for Potterheads everywhere. Delve deeper into the world created by J K Rowling, see what inspired her and what some of the content in her first drafts contained! I’ll give you a teaser… Guess what Dean Thomas’ first name was originally? It was Gary. GARY.

the sun & her flowers by Rupi Kaur

She’s only gone and done it again! Rupi Kaur is back with her second collection of poetry and it’ll hit you right in the feels just as the first one did. This one centres on the five topics of: wilting, falling, rooting, rising, blooming. It’s the perfect Christmas present for any fans of her first collection!

La Belle Sauvage (The Book of Dust) by Phillip Pullman

The long awaited prequel to the infamous Northern Lights was finally released in October this year and is a must-read for anyone who grew up with Lyra Belacqua. In this book, Lyra is only a baby discovered aboard by 11 year old Malcolm Polstead and his daemon…

Hold Back the Stars by Katie Khan

Never judge a book by its cover… Except this one. Because the story inside is just as beautiful as the outside cover is. It’s not a Christmas story but it’s the sort of thing you’ll want to read whilst curled up in bed. This love story is a slow burner that will leave your heart completely broken and aching. I shan’t tell you more but if you liked The Fault in Our Stars or Me Before You then you should enjoy this story too.

Available from Amazon for £4

Book Merch

Book merch, i.e. the nectar of the Gods, always makes for a great gift for book lovers. Whilst not being books themselves, they are book related and usually make for great decorations around the house. Candles, prints and more await…

Holiday Gift Box: Shakespeare Candle

This gift set from Obvious State is my favourite piece of mail I’ve received in a long time. Inside you’ll find a Shakespeare candle, three mini art prints and a little calendar for 2018. All the contents of this box are worth $50 so this is the best deal that Obvious State offer at the moment. The calendar is so, so cute and I’m so excited to see which art print will come with each month of 2018!

Available from Obvious State for $24

HG Wells Art Print

I am completely obsessed with the literary art prints from Obvious State. I’ve had a quote from F Scott Fitzgerald up on my walls for years but I decided it was time to expand the collection. A nice quote on the wall can serve as a daily reminder of some of life’s most important lessons. In this case, a nice reminder that your troubles may not be quite so big.

Available from Obvious State for $24

T.S. Eliot Art Print

I studied a collection of T S Eliot poems at school when I was 17 years old and, to be honest, I didn’t really “get” it. Now, five years later, I have a newfound appreciation of his infamous poem, The Love Song of J Alfred Prufrock and has quickly become one of my favourites. It has to be one of the only poems I can recite lines of off by heart and I’m delighted with this gorgeous print with the words “Do I dare disturb the universe?”. If you know a poetry nut, they’ll be sure to love this!

Available from Obvious State for $24

Literary Paris Postcard Set

Obvious State have a huge collection of items related to Paris which is like heaven for a Paris nut like me. Did I mention I used to live in Paris?  This collection of postcards is stunning and contains photos of some of my all-time favourite spots in Paris. It reminds me of all the things I love about Paris and its literary history. Reading in cafes, Shakespeare and Company, vintage books and more.

Available from Obvious State for $15

T.S. Eliot Coffee Mug

As I mentioned above, The Love Song of J Alfred Prufrock is one of my all time favourite poems and this is one of my favourite lines:

“I have measured out my life with coffee spoons”

Most book lovers are also tea and coffee fanatics (I’m the odd one out!), so you can’t go awry with a nice, big mug. No seriously, this mug is huge.

Available from Obvious State for $16

Book Stamp by Ladd Designs

I first got my hands on a personalised book stamp from Ladd Designs about 2 years ago and I’ve been happily stamping away my favourite novels ever since. I love opening the pages of a second-hand book and seeing if there are any markings from the previous owner and, who knows, maybe one day someone will see one of these stamps from my collection! This is a more unique gift for book lovers.

The Ultimate Gift Guide For Book Lovers Everywhere - Here are some gifts for book lovers out there that are guaranteed to please!

Artificial Succulent in a Book

What do instagrammers love? Succulents! Books! Both of these make excellent props for Instagram and someone has clearly had the genius to combine these two to create this: a succulent in a book. It’s artificial so there’s no need to worry about a) sodden pages and b) it dying. The perfect gift for book lovers!

Available from Not On The High Street for £29.50

Book Sleeves

Book sleeves are, objectively, the best thing since sliced bread. I’m one of those people that can’t bear to see the crumpled edges of a book or a dog-eared page. A book sleeve is an absolute essential for people that always carry books around with them on the go as they protect from all sorts of knocks and spills.

There are so many book sleeve companies out there but three that I particularly like are: Book Beau, Book Biff and Book Sac. I own sleeves from all three of the companies and they’re all very different but all three do the job. Book Beau is the most established company of the three and sell sleeves in a white variety of sizes, which is awesome. Book Biffs are fairly large and can fit a paperback or a hardback inside. They’re super squishy and there are lots of patterns to choose from. Book Sacs are the most “floppy” of the lot which makes them good for squeezing a lot of things into a bag. Shop them here:
