Beauty & Make Up Haul | The Winter Edition

I’ve never been the sort of girl to change her make up or beauty routine according to the seasons. I am aware that changes in temperature and the conditions outdoors can have a big impact on your skin but frankly I’m usually far too lazy to give a damn. However, my skin has noticeably deteriorated over the past year, no doubt due to the stress of finals and then a long bout of travelling, so this year I’m actually trying to take some steps to protect my skin during the colder months. Here are some products I’ve been trying out recently to fix up my skin for winter!

Aveeno Skin Relief Nourishing Lotion

I’ve used Aveeno creams all my life so I’m already a huge fan of their skincare range. When I was younger, I had bad eczema so I was prescribed Aveeno by the doctor and I’ve stuck with it until now even though I haven’t had bad eczema in over a decade. This new nourishing lotion contains shea butter in it so it’s even more hydrating than usual. Would definitely recommend this for people with sensitive skin as I’ve been using it all my life!

Neutrogena Hydo Boost Gel-Cream

If I had to pick one item out of all of these products that is an essential for winter, it would be this one. Healthy skin is the base of your outward appearance and no amount of make up product will ever beat naturally healthy skin. What I love about this gel-cream is that it’s completely fragrance free and really light. After I’ve applied it to my skin I honestly cannot tell that I’ve just put anything on it. My skin feels supple and hydrated to touch but you can’t actually feel anything on your skin so if you’re looking for a lightweight winter face cream, this one’s for you. What’s more it’s completely fragrance free, which is great for me because I have sensitive skin (and a sensitive nose!)

Neutrogena Norweigan Formula Hand Cream

I have to admit that this wasn’t quite what I was expecting. The texture is very thick and only a tiny bit comes out at a time. As the tube says “just a dab needed”. I can instantly see why it’s a lot of people’s favourite hand cream for winter because it really soaks into the skin and makes it feel supple and plump.

Neutrogena Norweigan Formula Deep Moisture Comfort Balm

I’d never tried this one before but I know it’s another favourite from the Norweigan Formula range. There’s something about smell of this that makes me think of being wrapped up in a warm and comforting blanket when it’s cold outside. Seriously how does a body cream do that?! Like the hand cream above, this formula is super rich and you don’t need to apply much to combat dry skin.

Clean and Clear Deep Action Facial Wipes

I haven’t used facial wipes in years but receiving this little pack of facial wipes from Clean and Clear reminded me why I should. They’re just so damn simple to use. If you’re in a rush and you don’t have time to get through your morning or nighttime routine properly, you can just give your face and neck a once over with these deep action facial wipes and voila! Spots and bacteria kept away for one more day. These are great for people who are always on the move so I’ll be giving this pack to my boyfriend to use when he gets to work after the cycle in. He’s not into health/beauty products at all but this one is so simple, he can’t say no!

Rimmel London Lasting Finish Breathable Foundation

I don’t wear foundation very often so when I do I want it to be as light and natural on the skin as possible. Rimmel’s new breathable foundation provides a good level of coverage and is neither thick nor cakey which gets a yes from me. I don’t think it’ll last as long as 25 hours like the bottle says but it’s still a very good foundation for the price. There is a wand applicator, ones that you would usually find in a concealer tube, but I liked this because it meant I had greater control over the amount of foundation I was applying.

Rimmel London Lasting Finish Breathable Concealer

This little guy has become a staple of my morning routine ever since I got it. The applicator brush is a very small, round sponge and it makes it so much easier to apply than a brush or a wand. It offers really great coverage and completely covers up any darkness under my eyes and I would highly recommend it!

Rimmel London Sculpting Palette by Kate Moss

I am a complete and utter n00b when it comes to contouring and I have never attempted it for fear of ending up looking like a stripey tiger on a night out. What I love about Rimmel’s Sculpting Palette is that it’s small, light weight and given you the three essentials in one place: highlighter, bronzer and blush. What’s more there a guide on the back with a sketch of a face showing you exactly where to apply each one – this is what I have been waiting for!!

£6.99 from Boots

Rimmel London Moisture Renew Lipstick

This lipstick is super hydrating and feels like more of a coloured lip balm than a lipstick to be honest, which is great! I got this in Vintage Pink 180 which is perfect for day-to-day wear.

Clairol Color Crave Hair Make Up

I received these two goodies for a Halloween Instagram campaign I did with Clairol. I’m always wanting to dye my hair a different colour but as I’m a law student I decided that it would probs be best not to (not sure the firm would approve..). That’s why I’m so happy to have discovered Clairol’s  Color Crave Hair Make Up, which is super easy to apply (literally like painting onto your hair), and it washes out immediately!!

Bliss Triple Oxygen Instant Energising Eye Mask

Despite saying this is an energising eye mask, I actually felt super sleepy after applying these to my face. It’s probably because I applied them at 8:30am and was lying in my warm bed but anyway. The skin under my eyes is now feeling super hydrated and slightly less puffy after a night’s sleep. The eye masks are pretty large and come down to just under your cheekbone and round the side of your eyes too so the whole area under your eye is treated to brightening, de-puffing, hydrating magic.

Available for £40 from M&S

Bliss Mask a-‘peel’ Radiance Revealing Rubberising Mask

A good face mask will leave your face feeling fresh and hydrated but a great face mask will leaving you glowing and unable to stop patting your own skin (which, by the way, is exactly what I’m doing right now). This mask is made by mixing powder and water in a little pot and then smoothing it all over your face with a small spatula. There’s plenty of mixture in the pot and to be honest I think you could probably share one pot between you and a friend. I have to admit that it did look a little scary when I applied this because the mixture is not quite solid so it started to slip down my face a bit. You have to put quite a lot on to create that “rubberising” effect but that means that you end up looking like your face is melting for the twenty minutes you keep this on your skin. Just don’t go wandering around your home in the dark with this on your face and no warning to your family because it could give them a fright. After twenty minutes, you peel the mask off your skin, and this is when you understand what they mean by “rubberising” mask. This mask left my skin feeling cool and clean and I’m really looking forward to my next!

Available for £20 at M&S

Bliss Triple Oxygen Instant Energising Eye Gel

I have to be honest that I really have no clue when it comes to eye creams. I know so many women swear by them but I don’t think I’ve ever used one for long enough to notice any lasting effects! This one, however, really is instantly energising. It’s lovely and cool around the eyes and I feel myself perking up in the mornings, kinda like stepping out into the cold air. It says use in morning and evening but to be honest I prefer to just use this one in the morning because I don’t want my eyes to feel energised before I go to bed!

Available for £42 at M&S

Optrex Warming Eye Mask (Fragrance Free)

I’ve become a little obsessed with face masks recently and now I can’t sleep without one. I’m a really light sleeper and very sensitive to changes in light and sound so the smallest thing can wake me up! More recently when I’m really tired and have sore eyes after a long day of staring at my computer screen, I’ve been putting on one of Optrex’s warming eye masks before bed (and sometimes falling asleep with it on!). These masks react with the air when you open them and then take a minute or two to heat up. There’s no need to faff around in the kitchen with the microwave, just keep a pack by your bed and open it up before you go to sleep. You’re guaranteed a great night’s sleep.

£8.99 for 10 masks at Boots

I don’t think you can ever get a foundation that lasts as long as they say they do. That being said I do like the sound of the Rimmel breathable foundation as I think any that doesn’t appear cakey is a bonus. The wand applicator sounds much better as well x

I have never used Aveeno but my skin is so dehydrated at the moment that I might have to give it a go. I bought a rubberising mask recent and am now really keen to put it on!
