10 Most Anticipated Book Releases Of 2016

We’re almost half way through 2016 and we’ve already seen numerous exciting book releases but there are many more still to come! Here are ten books that I am particularly excited about in the second half of 2016. This post is part of Top Ten Tuesday hosted by The Broke and the Bookish.

Empire of Storms (Throne of Glass #5) by Sarah J. Maas

How are there already five books in this series? It feels like yesterday when people were fangirling over the first and I can’t believe I’m now five books behind. This is a series I keep meaning to get to as people are always raving about Sarah J Maas and maybe the release of yet another book in this series will kick me into action. I can’t wait to start reading about Aelin’s journey from assassin to queen!

This Is Our Story by Ashley Elston

Five boys go hunting, only four come back. The evidence shows that any one of the survivors could have been the one to kill their friend. It is clear that the DA wants to sweep this case under the rug because these four boys come from influential families, but Kate, an intern, won’t let that happen.

I’ve never heard of this author before but I love the premise of this book and I’m desperate to find out who killed the boy and why!

Blood Riders by Gary Oldman and Douglas Urbanski

So you’ve probably never heard of Blood Riders and you’re wondering how on earth this book managed to make this list but author ‘Gary Oldman’ is in fact the one and only Sirius Black. I had no idea that Oldman was a writer of sorts and I’m really intrigued to read his work. This is a “profoundly creepy and highly original” vampire story set in 1882.

10 MOST ANTICIPATED BOOK RELEASES IN 2016Heartless by Marissa Meyer

Marissa Meyer, author of the Lunar Chronicles, is back again with a courtly, forbidden romance. Catherine is the favourite of the King but all she wants to do is open a patisserie shop with her best friend. Then comes Jest, the handsome court joker, who puts everything in jeopardy.

It Ends with Us by Colleen Hoover

Colleen Hoover is yet another Young Adult author who many people fangirl over and yet I have never read any of her works. It Ends With Us sounds like the characters are closer in age to myself than a lot of other YA romances at the moment so I’m hoping that I’ll really enjoy this. It follows the story of Lily who falls in love with Ryle, who seems perfect apart from his aversion to relationships. Lily becomes the exception to his rule but then her own first love, Atlas Corrigan, appears on the scene.

Autumn by Ali Smith

I read the critically aclaimed How To Be Both by Ali Smith last year and have to admit I wasn’t as taken with it as others were. You can check out my full review here but essentially I found one half to be fascinating and the other to be a little slow. I’m interested to read another of Smith’s works and give her writing another shot. Autumn is the first in a four part series with each book named after a different season.

The 12 Days of Dash and Lily by by Rachel Cohn, David Levithan

Anyone remember Dash & Lily’s Book of Dares? That was one of my favourite Christmassy reads a sequel is on its way! The story seems to have a taken a turn for the worst as Lily’s grandfather has had a stroke and Dash and Lily’s friends try to help her recapture the New York holiday magic.

Check out my review of Dash & Lily’s Book of Dares here.

The Winds of Winter by George R R Martin

Perhaps a little optimistic of me but the next instalment in the Game of Thrones series by George R R Martin is speculated to be released later in 2016. That said, he has repeatedly pushed back the publication date of this title which was supposed to be released before Season 6 of the HBO television series. It is, perhaps, unlikely that we’ll see this on our shelves before the end of 2016, but fingers crossed for those loyal GoT fans.

Crooked Kingdom (Six of Crows #2) by Leigh Bardugo

Another YA series that I have been meaning to read but just haven’t got around to yet is Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo. This is actually just a duology and Crooked Kingdom will be the last in the series so I guess I have no excuse for not giving this series a go given it’s so short. A story of magic and thieves, this sounds like one not to miss!

10 MOST ANTICIPATED BOOK RELEASES IN 2016Harry Potter and the Cursed Child by J.K. Rowling, John Tiffany & Jack Thorne

And last, but certainly by no means least, we have Harry Potter and the Cursed Child! Obviously this is just the script of the play, not another book in itself but it’ll still be interesting to see what this play is all about. I’m really disappointed I didn’t manage to get tickets for the show as they sold out like lightning but maybe I can get one for late 2017?!

Which book releases are you looking forward to? Got any more to add to my list?
